Director of Resident Care Services

GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Director of Resident Care Services is responsible for the overall supervision, provision, and quality of nursing care in the Wellness Center and residents of The Variel.  He/she is responsible for the selection, training, discipline, and supervision for all nursing related Wellness Center personnel.  He/she is responsible for the procurement of appropriate supplies and equipment and operating within the departmental budget.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES:

(Other duties will be assigned as needed) Must be willing and able to do the following:

  • Responsible for the development, organization and operation of nursing services and supportive services for the Wellness Center and residents of The Variel
  • Responsible for the coordination of nursing services for apartment and Wellness Center residents including the procurement of outside sources such as, Home Health Care Services, private duty, hospice, rehabilitation services, psychological, etc. necessary to ensure that residents’ needs are met
  • Communicates and meets with outside consultants as necessary to assess and make recommendations for resident care needs
  • Responsible for the coordination and direction of the total planning for nursing services including recommendation through a staffing plan of the number and levels of license and non-certified nurses’ aides to be employed
  • Develops and maintains an effective restorative care program in collaboration with therapy provider
  • Selects, trains, evaluates, disciplines all nursing services personnel
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining a schedule of daily rounds and assignments of duties for all nursing staff to assure 24-hour coverage sufficient to meet federal and state regulatory requirements and Facility standards of care
  • Develops and participates in a new staff orientation program for his/her employees, including private duty and agency staff
  • Oversees completion of written orientation and annual evaluations of all nursing staff
  • Appoints, with the Executive Director’s approval, a nurse to act in his/her behalf during temporary absences
  • Designates a nurse in charge each shift
  • In coordination with Human Resources, establishes procedures to ensure that nursing personnel, including private duty nursing staff, have valid and current licenses as required by federal and state regulations
  • Participates in the coordination of resident care services through departmental staff meetings
  • Attends, prepares, and analyzes necessary information for the Quarterly Assurance Meetings and annual policy review
  • Develops appropriate action plans and is responsible for follow through
  • Implements LCS Standards as demonstrated through the use of resources and programs
  • Coordinates required and supplemental Inservice education programs appropriate for nursing staff and acts as resource for Facility staff to increase knowledge of competence in job skills for the benefit of staff and residents, in cooperation with the Director of Human Resources and Executive Director. Utilizes vendors, consultants, and the medical community as appropriate
  • Maintains clinical skills and stays knowledgeable of current standards of nursing practice through nursing education related to geriatrics
  • Ensures that significant clinical developments of residents are reported to their families and/or responsible party, physicians, the Executive Director and State, as necessary
  • Reviews the nursing requirements of each resident admitted to the Wellness Center and assists the attending physician in planning care
  • Oversees the care plan development for residents
  • If necessary, acts on behalf of the Administrator in his/her absence
  • Ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations including corporate compliance and HIPAA Privacy Standards
  • Maintains high visibility with residents in the Wellness Center and apartment residents. Makes frequent tours of resident rooms to ensure quality of care on all shifts and the general safety of the Wellness Center environment
  • Attends Wellness Center and apartment resident social functions, as appropriate.
  • Evaluates all admissions for appropriate level of care and conducts reassessments of residents as needed
  • Oversees completion and timely submission of Variance Reports
  • Oversees ordering of all nursing supplies, office supplies and equipment for the Wellness Center. Submits quarterly inventory to accounting department
  • Routinely inspects medical records for accuracy
  • Serves “on call” on weekends and after normal working hours
  • Serves as Manager on Duty on scheduled weekends
  • Develops and maintains a statement of philosophy and standards of care that outlines the quality of nursing and medical care that the Facility provides
  • Develops and maintains written nursing standards. Such standards shall include, but not be limited to, defining routine care to be provided by licensed and non- certified nurses’ aides and determination of when more care is needed
  • Develops and maintains nursing service policies and procedures to implement the standards of care. This shall include the coordination and integration of nursing services with other resident care services
  • Develops and maintains written job descriptions for Wellness Center nursing staff.
  • Participates in planning an annual budget for department. Ensures monthly expenditures for department remain within budgeted allowances.  Reviews monthly operating statement for accuracy and explains variances to budget
  • Possesses ability to communicate effectively with residents, families, and staff. Must use sound judgment, works well under pressure, and possesses strong organizational skills
  • Utilizes CPS vendors as appropriate

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Registered nurse with a current license in community’s state
  • Two years’ experience in geriatric nursing and/or B.S. Degree in nursing
  • Participation in professional organizations, dealing primarily in geriatrics preferred
  • Minimum of two years nursing administration experience, preferably in a long-term care setting.
  • Basic computer proficiency
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Ability to move throughout the facility promptly, especially in emergency situations
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted, and up to 150 lbs. with the assistance of one. Must be able to stoop, bend, and reach
  • Must be able to push and pull up to 150 lbs in a wheelchair
  • Good visual and hearing acuity required
  • Good verbal communication skills required
  • Must be able to walk or stand for up to 80% of the workday
  • Must be free of communicable disease; may be exposed to communicable diseases, and blood and body fluids that may contain HIV and/or HBV
  • May be exposed to cleaning chemicals

Executive Chef

The Executive Chef will oversee all activity in the kitchen, train personnel, plan menus, oversee product purchasing and manage culinary budget. Direct day-to-day culinary operations for all dining rooms and special events. Maintain fine dining quality, and nutritional value of foods and sanitation standards.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

(Other duties will be assigned as needed) Must be willing and able to do the following:

  • Supervises kitchen personnel on all shifts, staffing, scheduling, counseling, orientation, and evaluation of kitchen staff. Selects, trains, evaluates, and recommends/carries out discipline to all kitchen personnel
  • Develops menus and assures implementation of these menus. Maintains a high-quality food service program for the resident’s dining rooms
  • Ensures that the Food and Beverage department meets all standards in accordance with State and Federal Health Survey process. Ensures F & B personnel is trained in and carry out efforts in this process
  • Assures staff education is provided to kitchen employees in accordance with the staff education program. Provides on-the-job training for food preparation and kitchen employees
  • Ensures all policies and procedures are followed in accordance with safe work practices, including but not limited to, MSDS information, infection control, universal precautions, and the Disaster Plan Manual
  • Develops work assignments for all kitchen personnel, assigning special jobs and spot-checking work to ensure standards are met
  • Promotes teamwork within the department and between department to ensure smooth operations and quality service to resident, co-workers, and guests
  • Supervises production, sanitation and food service to resident’s apartments
  • Ensures that all food production, storage and service areas are maintained in accordance with all local, federal and state regulations
  • Maintains essential records including menus served, number of meals served, requisitions for raw food products plus other appropriate reports, schedules, studies, etc.
  • Responsible for vendor selection, maintaining vendor relationships, inventory controls and maintaining par levels
  • Monitors temperature of meals
  • Assists in the development and implementation of standardized recipes and menu specifications
  • Responsible for inventory/cost control measures
  • Regularly participates/cooks on the line
  • Inspects equipment to determine repairs or maintenance needs
  • Maintains acceptable standards of personal hygiene and complies with department dress code
  • Attends in-service training and education sessions as assigned
  • Flexibility to work weekend and evening work if needed to ensure shift coverage
  • Personally interacts with residents at their tables during meal periods when on duty
  • Adheres to Resident Personal Rights as outlined in Title22 regulations
  • Maintains confidentiality of verbal and written information pertaining to residents, families, and visitors
  • Establish and maintain constructive working relationships with co-workers, residents, families and visitors
  • Performs specific work duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of five years’ experience as an executive chef or sous chef in a hotel, restaurant, club, or other similar institution
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and an understanding of measurements and conversions
  • Degree or Certificate from a culinary institute preferred
  • Must be ServSafe® Certified or be willing to complete the course within 30 days of hire

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Manual dexterity for preparing food
  • Ability to use standard industrial kitchen appliances required
  • Moderate to heavy physical effort
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. independently
  • May be exposed to extremely high and low temperatures from ovens, freezers, and refrigerators
  • Must be able to walk and stand up to 85% of the day
  • Must be able to stoop, reach, and bend frequently
  • Must be able to see, hear, and communicate with others
